Community United KC or New Community United of Kansas City, Missouri is a charitable organization founded in 1997. It was founded in conjunction with a friendly basketball game between reported "drug dealers" and staff of Jackson County, Missouri Prosecutor's office.
Today, we provide housing, mentoring, and various other social outreach programs and activities. Community United KC is solely funded by donations and by other charitable agencies, and works closely with Kansas City Police Department and Kansas City's existing social services framework to provide liaisons between the disenfranchised, and leadership of Kansas City's public and private sectors.
The Justice and Dignity Center brings together Kansas Citians across ethnicities and faith traditions united by our shared mission to build peace through spiritual solidarity. Our interfaith approach recognizes that lasting change begins with a common foundation: the universal call to honor human dignity through belief in a higher power.
This vision took tangible form on September 17, 2011, when dozens of community leaders signed a historic pact to "stop the violence" ravaging our streets. From this commitment emerged the March 3, 2012, founding of Stop the Killing KC - a groundbreaking coalition co-led by the Justice and Dignity Center's own Pastor Tony Caldwell (Community United KC).
The alliance formally adopted Community United KC's bold mission:
"To reclaim our city’s youth from cycles of poverty, substance abuse, and educational inequality through strengthening family values and centering spiritual devotion - with GOD always first."
Twenty-three faith traditions now collaborate through this initiative, proving that shared purpose transcends theological differences when lives are at stake.
